Tyler Engar represents financial institutions, particularly FinTech companies, in all aspects of regulatory compliance, from product development to regulatory enforcement. He advises clients on electronic banking, vendor management and contracting, online and other lending, licensing, electronic fund transfer and credit and prepaid card businesses, among others. Tyler also routinely counsels on data security and privacy (GLBA, CCPA-CPRA, GDPR and Reg. P) and consumer contacts (CAN-SPAM and TCPA).

Tyler has represented clients in CID and enforcement actions involving the CFPB, DOJ, OCC and state equivalents, including the California DFPI, New York DFS and Massachusetts AG. His matters have involved TILA (Reg. Z), FCRA (Reg. V), ECOA (Reg. B), SCRA, MLA, FDCPA (Reg. F), FinCEN BSA/AML, EFTA (Reg. E), RESPA (Reg. X) and UDAAP statutes under the Dodd-Frank Act.

Tyler returned to Akerman from a FinTech where he ended his tenure as head of legal. Among other duties, he supported developing a challenger bank from idea stage through marketing and launch, winding down a major lending product and managing two CFPB enforcement actions.

Tyler takes a practical approach to regulatory compliance using an in-depth understanding of client technology and processes, including limitations, to help them adapt to and meet operational challenges posed by an ever-changing regulatory landscape.
