Akerman Senterfitt Representation of Florida Inland Port Highlighted by the Vero Beach Press Journal
May 31, 2012
The Vero Beach Press Journal posted news of Akerman Senterfitt's representation of Florida Inland Port in an article titled "Inland Port Project Head Seeks Partner with Money." After facing challenges in April 2011 in gaining the support of the city of Port St. Lucie to annex property and change the land use designation, the Florida Inland Port, then called Treasure Coast Intermodal Campus, hired a high-powered team, including Akerman Senterfitt, to help strengthen its application to the county.
They expect the application to be submitted somewhere between six weeks from now and the end of the year. The scope of the project, which includes discussions with railroads and the probability of spending hundreds of millions of dollars, has caused delays.
The inland port was anticipated to coincide with increased imports and exports generated by the expansion of the Panama Canal, which now is expected to finish in 2015. Florida Inland Port hopes to open the intermodal facility in 2015 with the first phase of the distribution facility possibly at that time as well.
