November 12, 2012
Akerman Senterfitt today announced it has named David Doney as managing shareholder of its Tampa office.

"A talented lawyer and an active member of the community, David will play an important role for Akerman as we further strengthen our relationships with both civic and business leaders shaping the greater Tampa area," said Andrew Smulian, chairman and CEO of Akerman Senterfitt. "I am confident David will build upon our success as we continue to serve our clients and enrich the communities in which we live and work."

A corporate and securities lawyer with 21 years of experience, Doney's practice focuses on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. He recently represented Vology Data Systems, a global provider of new and certified pre-owned networking and telecommunication solutions, in its acquisition of Sooner Network Solutions, an Oklahoma City-based specialist in new and pre-owned networking solutions.

Doney serves as a member of the advisory board of Make-A-Wish – Central & Northern Florida and on the board of directors of ACG-Tampa Bay. Akerman provides financial support to numerous national and local organizations with many of the firm's professionals serving in leadership roles with key charitable and civic groups.

Doney succeeds Joseph Rugg, who served as Akerman's managing shareholder in Tampa since 2002. Rugg will continue his practice as a shareholder in the firm's Healthcare Practice Group.
