Law360 Highlights New Akerman Lateral Juan Carlos Bermudez – a Land Use Pro and Former Mayor of Doral
November 27, 2012
Law360 highlighted Akerman Senterfitt's recent lateral, Juan Carlos Bermudez, Doral's only mayor since it incorporated in 2003.

During his tenure, Bermudez oversaw a $46 million budget that rose from almost nothing, helped put together Doral's first comprehensive development master plan and land use code, and oversaw the redevelopment of a 14-acre commercial landfill site into a community park. Additionally, several thousand multinational companies place their Latin American headquarters within Doral's city lines given its proximity to the Miami International Airport, so as mayor, Bermudez was significantly involved with various international deals. In his private practice, he advised clients on land use and regulatory issues for projects.

"His hire comes on the heels of Akerman's New York office adding an of counsel with extensive knowledge of land use laws, including environmental and zoning regulations," Law360 wrote. "Mark Levine joined Akerman's land use and development team with an eye toward bolstering the firm's national and international real estate work."
