Alejandro García-Villalpando's move to Akerman Senterfitt's New York office was published in the Latin Lawyer article titled, "Akerman Senterfitt Strengthens LatAm Team with Tax Hire." The article touted Akerman for "boosting its Latin American practice with the hire of tax lawyer García-Villalpando," and described how García-Villalpando plans to develop his practice, as well as how he will assist the firm's clients involved in transactions overseas.

"García says he decided to make the move after Akerman offered him a 'very interesting platform' to develop his practice, with his new firm's offices in 'all the major entry points into the U.S.,' a particular bonus for many of his clients looking to invest in the country." Latin Lawyer wrote.

Carlos Méndez-Peñate, co-chair of Akerman's Latin America & the Caribbean Practice Group was quoted, "We decided to bring Alejandro on board because we felt a need for a highly skilled and experienced cross border tax specialist in both our Latin America & the Caribbean practice group as well as in our New York office... Alejandro brings us skills both in the tax aspects of corporate transactions, i.e. M&A, capital markets and financings of various types, as well as advice to high net worth Latin American families with structuring family trusts and similar entities."
