On March 15, 2013, Akerman Senterfitt West Palm Beach joined forces with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, the world's largest volunteer-driven fundraising entity for childhood cancer research, for a head-shaving event in an effort to gather the local community to participate and raise $50,000 for the cause.
The event was inspired in support of one of the Akerman family, Spencer Crowley, whose daughter Ava is battling cancer. Local CBS 12 news in West Palm Beach reported on the event, capturing images of the 18 Akerman "shavees" and encouraging words from Ava's grandparents.
