Press Release

Akerman Senterfitt today announced that it has organized a team of lawyers and staff at the firm's Orlando office, as well as their families, to participate in the annual Light The Night Walk held by the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. The Akerman team initially set a goal of raising $10,000 to fund programs for children and adult patients, and also honor Akerman shareholders Robert Slavkin and Russell Hale whose lives and loved ones have been directly affected by blood cancer. As of today, the Akerman team has raised more than $14,000, making it the leading fundraiser for this year’s LLS event.

LLS provides public health education and professional counseling to patients and families battling a blood cancer like leukemia, which is the most common type of childhood cancer, accounting for 26.7 percent of all cases. The organization has programs dedicated to youth wellness and education, including school reentry to ensure a smooth transition for children returning to school from active treatment. Through programs like Pasta for Patients and HOP for Leukemia and Lymphoma, local schools work together to aid thousands of children and adults in need of treatment and financial assistance.

“Akerman proudly supports organizations like The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society that share our deep commitment to serving the community, particularly the unique educational needs of children,” said Charles Brumback, office managing shareholder of Akerman's Orlando office. “The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has promised a hopeful future to thousands of children, helping them rediscover instances of learning and fun and lead normal and productive lives.”

The Light The Night Walk will take place on October 10, 2013 at Lake Eola in Downtown Orlando. For those who wish to contribute, a donation of any size can be made by visiting the team's page, available here.
