Akerman's fifth annual U.S. Real Estate Summit featured a panel with leaders from Miami and New York discussing the parallels of these two most influential U.S. cities in urban redevelopment. On the heels of joining President Obama for a speech, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez sat with Carl Weisbrod, New York's recently appointed city planning commission chair, and Miami-Dade County Deputy Mayor Jack Osterholt in a dialogue led by Neisen Kasdin, Miami office managing partner. Law360 quoted the Akerman Summit speakers in an article titled, "Miami Looks To Model NYC As Real Estate Opportunities Grow." The group agreed that Miami has emerged as a global city that could see a transformative next decade putting it on par with New York as a world center and gateway for trade.
