Akerman LLP, a top 100 U.S. law firm serving clients across the Americas, today announced that Robert Slavkin, a partner in the Orlando office and a member of the firm's Healthcare Practice Group, has been appointed vice chair of publications for the American Health Lawyers Association’s Payors, Plans and Managed Care Practice Group.

As vice chair, Slavkin's responsibilities include promoting, maintaining and developing educational and informational materials on the latest issues facing the industry on behalf of his AHLA practice group and enhancing the value received by members.

Slavkin practices healthcare law and represents a variety of clients within the healthcare industry, providing guidance on complex issues, including compliance with all appropriate federal and state statutes and regulations. These include federal anti-kickback, Stark laws, Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA and FDA regulations, as well as operational and compliance issues facing healthcare clients. Slavkin has developed significant experience regarding the Affordable Care Act and how accountable care plays a part in health reform in the United States, and also provides guidance regarding Medicare Managed Care and the Part D programs. He speaks regularly throughout the country on an array of healthcare issues, including compliance and development of compliance programs under the federal requirements, HIPAA matters, as well as other relevant issues.

The American Health Lawyers Association is the nation's largest educational organization devoted to legal issues in the healthcare industry. The Association's Payors, Plans and Managed Care Practice Group addresses legal issues concerning health plans and insurers, including, but not limited to, plan operations and management, managed care, litigation, regulations, privacy and security.
