Luis A. Perez, co-chair of Akerman's Latin America & the Caribbean Practice Group, and Francisco A. Rodriguez, co-authored a Daily Business Review article on the rising role of emergency arbitration in international disputes' resolution. The lawyers analyzed how emergency arbitrators provide a viable, timely alternative to those, who would otherwise need to pursue emergency relief in a court that has jurisdiction over their dispute. Not only would this option be counterintuitive, the authors wrote, but it also would defeat the whole purpose of avoiding litigation to address a dispute. Further, Perez and Rodriguez described how emergency arbitral awards work, as well as what the implications are for parties involved in those kind of procedures.

Perez and Rodriguez wrote, "Given these clear benefits, the figure of the emergency arbitrator should be promoted as one of the advantages of arbitration, particularly considering that the vast majority of arbitration awards are voluntarily accepted and followed without the need of a subsequent judicial confirmation process."
