Akerman's Beth Zafonte was honored with the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Network Impact Award in the member-to-member business category. Zafonte received high honors for her collaborative work in Gemological Institute of America Inc.'s $51 million purchase of an 80,000-square-foot space in the International Gem Tower in New York City. A director at NYCREW, Zafonte advised on the application for New York City and state not-for-profit tax exemptions and recruited further NYCREW members to help make the deal a success. Her achievements were reported by Commercial Property Executive and New York Real Estate Journal.
Zafonte was one of 12 individuals honored at the 2014 CREW Network Convention & Marketplace, one of the premier events in the commercial real estate industry. Industry experts and distinguished speakers gathered at the annual event on Sept. 20-Oct. 3, including former U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton; editor-in-chief of Forbes Media, Steve Forbes; and Lead Anchor of BBC World News America, Katty Kay.
