International Practice Chair Pedro Freyre and Augusto Maxwell, chair of Akerman's Cuba Practice, provided extensive commentary to national media during the historic reopening of the U.S. embassy in Havana. Among the select group of individuals to attend the flag-raising ceremony, Freyre discussed the significance of rekindled U.S.-Cuba relations from a business and geopolitical standpoint. Maxwell also provided market-leading insights, as normalized bilateral policies between the two neighboring countries are opening doors to several trade ventures. Coverage appeared on ABC News, Al Jazeera, CNN, CNN Money, Fox Business, The Miami Herald, Orlando Sentinel, Politico and Sun Sentinel. Freyre and Maxwell also addressed immediate and future opportunities for U.S. businesses, in particular travel carriers and tour operators, as well as telecommunications companies, medical equipment corporations, banks and exporters of agricultural and farming equipment.
