In The News

Diane DeWolf was appointed to serve as treasurer of the First District Appellate American Inn of Court, effective Sept. 4, 2015. As an officer, DeWolf will handle all aspects of the Inn's finances and serve as a member of the Inn's executive committee, which meets regularly at the First District Court of Appeal. She succeeds Katherine Giddings who served as treasurer of the organization since its inception in 2008.

DeWolf focuses her practice on handling complex civil and administrative appeals. Prior to Akerman, she served as deputy solicitor general in the Office of the Attorney General, where she handled and orally argued statewide appeals. While there, she received a fellowship with the National Association of Attorneys' General United States Supreme Court Project in Washington, D.C., during which she had the unique opportunity to routinely observe arguments held before the Supreme Court. Before her tenure as a deputy solicitor general, DeWolf served as staff attorney for the Hon. Ricky Polston at both the Florida Supreme Court and the First District Court of Appeal. Clerking at the state's highest and intermediate appellate courts exposed DeWolf to a wide range of appellate issues, enabled her to review hundreds of briefs, and allowed her to participate in countless appeals. That experience provides her with invaluable insight for clients in drafting briefs, effectively framing issues on appeal and presenting oral arguments. DeWolf currently serves as a member of The Florida Bar's Rules of Appellate Procedure Committee, which proposes the appellate rules for the entire state.

The American Inns of Court is a national organization with local chapters, whose overarching mission is to foster excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility and legal skills. The First District Appellate American Inn has been recognized among the top 10 percent of Inns that advance such critical goals.
