South Florida Business Journal Honors Akerman Senterfitt Attorneys at 2009 Key Partners Awards
Three Akerman Attorneys Take Home Top Honors for Demonstrated Success and Value to Clients in 2009
November 18, 2009
Five Akerman Senterfitt attorneys were recognized at the annual Key Partners Awards by the South Florida Business Journal last week, with Akerman attorneys taking top honors in more categories than any other law firm. The awards honor South Florida's top attorneys and accountants based on demonstrated success during the past 18 months.
Three Akerman attorneys were honored as winners. Michael Goldberg was recognized for his work in bankruptcy and restructuring. Mr. Goldberg has been consistently named "Top Bankruptcy Lawyer" by South Florida Legal Guide since 2001, and has appeared as an expert on Ponzi schemes and receiverships on national news programs such as CNN and CNBC. He has also been quoted in national publications such as Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. Jonathan Awner, chair of Akerman’s Corporate practice, was honored for his work, including serving as lead counsel for Republic Services in its industry-transforming $12.9 billion merger, the largest deal of the industrial services sector in the United States in 2008. Mark Passler, chair of Akerman’s Intellectual Property practice, was also recognized for his work managing the worldwide intellectual property portfolios of numerous clients in sports and entertainment, consumer products, biomedical, pharmaceutical, and other technology industries.
The South Florida Business Journal holds several awards throughout the year to recognize outstanding business practices in the Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. The Key Partners Award's judging team selects two finalists and one winner in each category from numerous nominations. Each winner selected has exemplified outstanding work in his or her field of practice.
