March of Dimes Florida Chapter Honors Akerman Senterfitt’s Neisen Kasdin as Humanitarian of the Year
November 23, 2009
Akerman Senterfitt is proud to announce that Neisen Kasdin, shareholder and Chair of Akerman’s Land Use and Entitlements practice, has been named “Humanitarian of the Year” at the 8th Annual Building Our Community Awards luncheon of the March of Dimes Florida Chapter. The award honors individuals and companies who exemplify industry leadership and whose social consciousness and efforts have significantly contributed to the quality of life in the Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach communities.

Neisen Kasdin has long been an important catalyst for progressive change in South Florida and was instrumental in the revitalization of South Beach during his time as the City Commissioner and Mayor of Miami Beach. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Miami Downtown Development Authority, and has remained dedicated to the revitalization of downtown Miami as a key contributor to the recently passed DDA Master plan, that will serve as a benchmark for encouraging investment in the downtown area by both the public and private sectors.  He has also been an active proponent of the recently passed Miami21 initiative, an innovative and forward thinking project for land use and urban planning.

Mr. Kasdin was recognized by the March of Dimes Florida Chapter along with: Manny Diaz, Former Mayor of the City of Miami; Octavio Hernandez, President of U.S. Century Bank; Javier Hernandez-Lichtl, CEO of South Miami Hospital at Baptist Health Systems; Howard B. Lucas, CEO of Goldstein Schechter Koch; Bob Berkowitz President of Multivision Video; Jeff Bartel, Group Vice President of Florida Power & Light; and Gilbert Salguero, Station Manager of Radio Disney Miami.

The March of Dimes is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Founded in 1938, the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services, education, and advocacy to save babies.
