Akerman's approximately 40-lawyer Cannabis Practice serves businesses across the country involved in the legal cultivation, processing, and distribution of cannabis, as well as those providing ancillary services. Areas of focus include finance, banking, regulatory compliance, branding and IP, federal taxation, corporate transactions, and dispute resolution.

Among the team's many accomplishments during the award period, Akerman served as lead counsel and lead regulatory counsel to Safe Harbor Financial – a leading financial services provider to the cannabis industry – in its $30 million acquisition of fintech company Rockview Digital Solutions, Inc. The firm also served as lead counsel to Needham Bank – the leading financial institution in Massachusetts for marijuana banking – in connection with three separate commercial loans totaling over $100 million dollars to three multi-state cannabis operators.
