Beth Alcalde and Pedro Freyre are named among the honorees in Daily Business Review’s 2020 Professional Excellence Awards. Alcalde is recognized in the Best Mentors category, while Freyre is highlighted among the publication’s Distinguished Leaders. 

Among her many leadership roles within Akerman, Alcalde serves as the firm’s Professional Development Partner, leading efforts to further develop the professional development of the firm’s associates through targeted training and mentoring. Within her tax practice, Alcalde is a noted employee benefits lawyer, author, and speaker, representing Fortune 500 companies and other public and private entities. 

Freyre is the chair of the Equality and Inclusion Committee, spearheading the firm’s commitment to cultivating a diverse and collaborative culture. Freyre also serves as the chair of the firm’s International Practice and is an expert on Cuba-U.S. relations. Pedro guides clients with respect to the defense of claims arising from the implementation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act. He helps U.S. entities that are engaged in authorized activities in connection with entering the Cuban market, and advises foreign entities that are involved in Cuba business on implications with U.S. law. 

Alcalde and Freyre will be recognized at the Professional Excellence Awards event on October 7 in Miami.
