Pedro Freyre, International Practice Chair, authored a letter to the editor in the Miami Herald about President Joe Biden’s response to the ongoing situation in Cuba. Biden met with a group of Cuban American community leaders, where he expressed his support for the Cuban people by outlining his plans to increase pressure on Cuban leaders while seeking to provide internet access, humanitarian aid, and remittances to the citizens of Cuba.

“At this critical moment, [Biden] is demonstrating his support for the Cuban people and for Cuban Americans,” Freyre said. “He is listening to our voices, rallying international support, and throwing the full weight of our country to directly empower the Cuban people through internet connectivity, focused sanctions that target the people responsible for repression and not punishing the general populace.”
