In a new article published by Bloomberg Tax, Akerman Tax Partner Stefi George and Associate Joshua Hamlet break down a new IRS program that allows Employee Retention Credit filers to withdraw their claim. The program is intended to provide a path to withdrawal for employers who filed for the pandemic relief based on questionable advice or positions that may be riskier today in light of subsequently-issued IRS guidance. If a claim is successfully withdrawn, it will be treated as if it was never filed in the first place.
