Akerman Remembers Our Friend, Colleague, and Pro Bono Leader, Bill Van Nortwick

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Bill Van Nortwick, a partner in Akerman’s Jacksonville office. A former judge for the First District Court of Appeal and partner-in-charge of Akerman’s national pro bono program, Bill led the firm’s philanthropic efforts within the areas of education and youth development. A renowned champion for equal justice and pro bono legal services, he was a past recipient of the American Bar Association’s prestigious Pro Bono Publico Award and The Florida Bar Foundation’s Medal of Honor.

Bill was a past chair of The Florida Bar Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services, a member of the Florida Commission on Access to Civil Justice established by the Florida Chief Justice, and a former president of the boards of directors for Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, Florida Legal Services, and The Florida Bar Foundation. He received the inaugural Florida Chief Justice’s Distinguished Judicial Service Award.

Leaving an enduring legacy for his unwavering commitment to justice and service, Bill will be greatly missed by his family, colleagues, and community.
