Akerman, together with the Gold Jacket Fund, will co-host a webinar titled, “NYC Outer Boroughs Opportunity Zones Forum” featuring the federal Opportunity Zones (OZ) team. The forum will outline strategies to utilize the full range of OZ tax and capital benefits to induce “transformational” projects creating direct benefits to the OZ communities in the NYC Boroughs.

The forum will explore approaches for: 

• Encouraging projects that positively impact OZ communities and their residents 
• Identifying and resolving conflicts that can occur between developers and investors seeking optimum ROI and the communities working to enhance their neighborhoods while maintaining affordability 
• Positioning the Boroughs as a global center similar to New York City while maintaining the neighborhoods as attractive and affordable centers of residence and business

The OZ team will be led by Ja’Ron Smith, Special Assistant to the President and Chris Pilkerton, Director of the Opportunity Now program. Senior officials of agencies active in OZ projects will also participate. The key stakeholders group includes private sector developers and investors, educational and health institutions, and community development groups involved in generating or executing OZ projects.
