Seminars and Conferences

Akerman will host a webinar where environmental consultants and attorneys will discuss how companies can stay ahead of PFAS regulations and what to do if PFAS is found in their commercial products. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, better known as PFAS, are often referred to as “forever chemicals” because they do not easily break down or degrade and accumulate over time in the environment and in the body. Scientific studies have now shown that exposure to PFAS can lead to significant adverse health effects, which has resulted in increased regulatory scrutiny and a proliferation of litigation. PFAS can be found in everyday products such as food packaging, stain-, water- and grease-resistant materials, textiles, and nonstick cookware, as well as being present at virtually all military bases and airports.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • Real world responses to the Toxic Substances Control Act Reporting and Recordkeeping Rule for PFAS
  • Evolving PFAS regulatory developments
  • How environmental, product, and other PFAS risks are assessed during transactional due diligence
  • Technologies and associated costs of addressing PFAS in the environment
