Akerman will sponsor an evening CLE program with the Chicago Chapter of the Association of General Counsel titled  "The Ticking Time Bomb: Your Non-Healthcare Organization’s HIPAA Liability."  The discussion will focus on how non-healthcare organizations may risk significant fines and penalties for violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and its implementing regulations. Non-healthcare organizations that engage in certain activities are often unaware that they are acting as business associates and that they are subject to HIPAA's onerous requirements.
