Practices

Akerman has represented and advised numerous clients in the power, process, and petrochemical industries. These projects typically share many common attributes – EPC forms of contracting, performance guarantees, complicated equipment interfaces, and intensive structural, mechanical, electrical, and environmental control requirements.

We have worked in the United States, and around the world, including Asia (India, Pakistan, Nepal, China, Malaysia), the Middle East (UAE, Kuwait, Qatar), Africa (Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and Angola), South America (Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Bolivia), Mexico, Costa Rica and Guatemala. As a result, our lawyers, some of whom have engineering degrees and technical, construction management backgrounds, are well-versed in the nuances of technology, terminology, and the operation of these projects.

Working with most of the major turbine vendors, our team has also represented various interests in the negotiation of turbine purchase agreements, construction management contracts, and operations and maintenance contracts. Our role as special construction counsel has involved working side-by-side with in-house counsel for our clients, or working directly with the business and technical personnel.
