| Experience Michael Abrams was a member of the Florida House of Representatives for 1982-1994 where The Miami Herald ranked him the second most effective legislator in his last year. As a legislator, he was Chairman of the powerful Health and Human Services Appropriations Sub-Committee for 2 years, Chairman of the House Health Care Committee for 2 years, and Chairman of the House Finance and Taxation Committee from 1990-1994. As one of only a few people to serve four straight years as Chairman of the House Finance and Taxation Committee, Mike has unique experience related to the effect of state tax policy on private companies, healthcare, and public education. Mike also served as Chairman of the Dade Delegation and Deputy Majority Leader.
Mike's client base includes not-for-profits, municipalities, counties, healthcare, and governmental entities, specifically as it relates to obtaining funding at the state and federal level. As a result of his vast knowledge of the appropriations process as a former appropriations subcommittee chairperson, he has been successful at obtaining millions of dollars for his clients throughout the years. Mike has utilized the tools he has gained from being a high-ranking former lawmaker to successfully advocate substantive legislative and statutory requests on behalf of clients.
Corporate clients are represented in federal, state, county, and city government meetings to explain issues to the legislator, working with them to amend and draft statutes. Many corporate clients need access to local county and city officials. Mike has worked with Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami for many years and his relationships with city and county commissioners are solid. He is knowledgeable in bond financing, lease extensions, and building projects.
