Firm Bolsters National Capabilities in Corporate Transactions and Regulatory Compliance for Healthcare Institutions

Akerman LLP, a top 100 U.S. law firm serving clients across the Americas, today announced the continued growth of its Healthcare Practice Group with Marcy Hahn-Saperstein, a partner in the Boca Raton office. As outside general counsel to hospitals and other healthcare providers, Hahn-Saperstein enhances Akerman's national capabilities in corporate transactions, regulatory compliance and other business issues for the healthcare industry.

"We are pleased to welcome Marcy to our growing national team of healthcare lawyers, at a time when healthcare transaction scrutiny is becoming increasingly more common," said Kirk Davis, chair of the Healthcare Practice Group. "Marcy's experience in healthcare compliance and transactional matters will be instrumental for clients structuring deals in today's complex and far reaching regulatory environment. Having served as interim general counsel of a key regional hospital in Florida, Marcy also brings with her a skill set that clients appreciate — a true understanding of their business."

Hahn-Saperstein serves as outside general counsel to hospitals and other healthcare companies throughout the U.S. In this capacity, she structures, negotiates and performs healthcare regulatory analyses for corporate transactions, including equity and asset purchases, mergers, restructurings and joint ventures. She assists clients with compliance and licensing issues necessitated by changes of ownership after acquisitions or mergers. Hahn-Saperstein also routinely provides counsel on corporate governance issues for both profit and not for profit entities, and other matters that arise in the operation of healthcare businesses, such as physician practice acquisitions, facility and equipment leases, professional services agreements and management agreements.

While at her previous law firm, Hahn-Saperstein served as interim general counsel and secretary of Boca Raton Regional Hospital and affiliates. Prior to practicing law, she was a commercial banker to the healthcare industry at National Westminster Bank USA in New York, where she managed a $100 million commercial loan portfolio comprised solely of companies in the healthcare industry.

Hahn-Saperstein joins Akerman's Healthcare Practice Group only weeks after the firm welcomed Chicago partner Jane McCahill, who concentrates on healthcare compliance and transactional matters, as well as governmental fraud and abuse investigations. Their combined experience bolsters Akerman's ability to serve healthcare institutions in multi-jurisdictional transactions and complex state and federal healthcare laws and regulations.
