Beth Alcalde, office managing partner of Akerman's Palm Beach County offices, spoke with Business Insurance for an article titled, "Employers Rethink Benefits After Gay Marriage Ruling." The report focused on implications for employer-based benefit plans, following the landmark Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage. Alcalde discussed how the high court's decision would prompt regulatory changes for employers across jurisdictions in similar fashion to the Supreme Court's U.S. v. Edith Windsor et al. decision.
"I suspect that the timing and mechanics of the various state regulators rolling out those pieces of guidance will follow very closely to what we saw after Windsor," Alcalde told the publication. "It might even come faster than it did after the Windsor decision, simply because it has been done before at the federal level and in certain states."
