Akerman represented HEICO Corporation (NYSE: HEI.A and NYSE: HEI) in its acquisition of 80% of the stock of Sherwood Avionics and Accessories, Inc. (Sherwood) through HEICO's Flight Support Group. The balance of Sherwood's ownership will continue to be held by members of Sherwood's management team.
HEICO Corporation is a leading provider of products and services to niche segments of the aviation, defense, space, medical, telecommunications, and electronics industries. The company’s customers include a majority of the world’s airlines and overhaul shops, as well as defense and space contractors, military agencies, and medical, telecommunications, and electronics equipment manufacturers worldwide.
Founded in 1992 and headquartered near Miami's Opa-locka Airport, Sherwood is a Federal Aviation Administration and European Union Safety Agency Part 145 repair station offering defense-focused maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, including auxiliary power units and complex electro-mechanical components, across a wide range of military fixed-wing and rotary-wing platforms.
The acquisition strengthens HEICO's defense MRO capabilities and expands its Flight Support Group's presence in mission-critical component overhaul.
The Akerman team advising HEICO included corporate law partner Jonathan Awner, securities law partner Christina Russo, antitrust law partner Austin Ownbey, and corporate associates Taylor Jobb and Amanda Rementeria.
