Akerman is among the law firms selected by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to participate in the Governor’s Initiative on Lawyers Assisting Warriors (GI LAW). GI LAW was created to assist active duty military members by providing free legal representation in civil matters, filling the gap for Florida service members between legal assistance available through their military service and the civil legal needs with which military attorneys cannot assist service members. GI LAW began accepting requests for pro bono legal services from active duty service members in May. Since then, 60 service members have received free legal representation.
