Press Release

Akerman has announced a strategic consolidation of its North Carolina operations, concentrating regional activity in Charlotte — a thriving hub for national clients, innovation sectors, and sophisticated legal talent. The move reflects the firm’s commitment to aligning its platform with client demand, market momentum, and long-term growth objectives.

As part of this consolidation, Akerman will no longer maintain a designated office in Winston-Salem. This decision is part of the firm’s broader platform optimization strategy — realigning its operational footprint to strengthen impact in regions where client sophistication and strategic opportunity are converging.

“Charlotte represents everything our clients want: connectivity to national markets, a vibrant legal community, and top-tier talent,” said Akerman Chairman and CEO Scott Meyers. “This consolidation reinforces our long-term commitment to building in the markets where opportunity is accelerating. Under the leadership of Josh DeBottis, our Charlotte Managing Partner, we are accelerating growth, amplifying excellence, and scaling our platform with speed and precision.”

With offices across major financial, technology, and regulatory centers, Akerman remains focused on deepening its platform while streamlining operations for greater agility, profitability, and strategic focus.

“This transition reflects a decisive integration of leadership and strategy — placing responsibility in the hands of those positioned to drive both,” Meyers added. “We have built a high-performing team in Charlotte with precisely the kind of leadership we want to scale: strategic, trusted, and fully aligned with the direction of the firm.”

Akerman remains on track for its 15th consecutive year of profitable revenue growth. The North Carolina consolidation — with a strategic focus on Charlotte — further aligns the firm’s geographic footprint with its strongest performing markets and most forward-leaning client sectors.
