Akerman Chairman and CEO Scott Meyers was featured in an article by The American Lawyer discussing how law firms have been moving into emerging markets at a rapid pace, flooding into such cities as Austin, Salt Lake City, Denver, and Miami in search of new opportunities. The launches are overwhelmingly client-driven, either directed by work for existing clients in an emerging market or fueled by the lure of work from expanding industries. Meyers noted that Akerman clients' needs have prompted the firm's expansion into emerging markets over the years.
“The unifying factor behind all of them has really been client demand," Meyers said. "We have really been avoiding the ‘if we build it, they will come’ model.”
