Akerman LLP, a top 100 U.S. law firm serving clients across the Americas, today announced that for the fifth consecutive year, it earned a 100 percent Corporate Equality Index (CEI) rating and a "Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality" designation by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2019 CEI is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, and queer (LGBTQ) employees. The recognition further demonstrates Akerman’s commitment to a culture of inclusion. 

According to the 2019 CEI, the top 572 performing companies and law firms took concrete steps to ensure greater equality for LGBTQ workers. Specifically, the CEI surveyed Fortune 500 companies and The American Lawyer’s top 200 revenue-grossing law firms, including Akerman, in three key criteria: non-discrimination policies; equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families; and supporting an inclusive culture and corporate social responsibility. This year, the CEI’s criteria focused on requiring businesses to offer health care coverage revisions for the families of LGBTQ workers.

Launched in 2002, the CEI is the first internationally recognized benchmarking report for businesses to gauge their level of LGBTQ workplace inclusion against competitors.
