Press Release

Akerman today announced that Evan Friedland has joined the firm as a partner in its Transactional Risk Practice, based in Miami.

“Akerman continues to invest in top talent to meet the growing demand for transactional risk insurance,” said Paul Rutigliano, Transactional Risk Practice Chair. “Evan has deep-rooted experience counseling and advising insurers and MGAs/MGUs on the placement of representations and warranties insurance policies, and, coupled with his background advising on M&A and other corporate transactions, he has a well-rounded view of these deals from every side of the table. That perspective strengthens how we guide clients through underwriting and policy negotiations.”

“Akerman offers a rare combination: a nationally ranked M&A and private equity platform paired with deep experience in the insurance industry,” said Evan. “That is exactly what clients need as demand for transactional risk products continues to grow, and I am excited to build alongside this team.”

Evan advises insurers, buyers, and sellers on transactional risk insurance solutions, with a focus on representations and warranties policies. He works with clients on policy terms and helps manage risk issues as a transaction moves toward closing. Drawing on his prior experience advising on M&A, joint ventures, restructurings, and corporate governance matters, Evan brings a practical understanding of the legal and commercial issues that drive a deal, along with the ability to spot transaction risk throughout the underwriting process.

Evan is listed in Best Lawyers in Florida for Corporate Law, Leveraged Buyouts and Private Equity Law, and Mergers and Acquisitions Law as a “One to Watch,” and has been named a Super Lawyers Magazine “Rising Star” for Mergers & Acquisitions in Florida.

With a nationally ranked M&A and Private Equity Practice and extensive experience in the insurance industry, Akerman provides insurers, managing general agents, and managing general underwriters with a comprehensive perspective on evaluating and structuring transactional risk insurance products. The firm's team of practicing deal lawyers, across a variety of specialties, brings extensive deal experience to the underwriting process, including assisting insurers with due diligence, identifying key transaction risks, and preparing insurance policies, as well as evaluating and underwriting tax and contingent risk insurance policies.
