Real Estate partner Kathleen Duncan and of counsel John “Jack” George helped advance construction of a new Chicago headquarters for a premier refugee nonprofit, as detailed in Chicago Lawyer Magazine. Working pro bono, the team helped RefugeeOne, an organization that serves more than 2,500 refugees and immigrants per year regardless of age, ethnic background, or faith, obtain a Special Use exemption from Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development and its Zoning Board of Appeals. The northwest Chicago complex will include a community center, employee offices, a dental clinic, and mental health services.
“As much satisfaction as I get from putting up any of the real big buildings, I got just as much or more satisfaction out of representing RefugeeOne,” George said. “It’s a unique project, and you see the good they do. It’s a rewarding experience.”
