Press Release

Akerman LLP, a top 100 U.S. law firm serving clients across the Americas, today announced that Bruce Platt, a partner with the firm's Healthcare Practice Group, has assumed the role of office managing partner for the Tallahassee office.

"Bruce is a respected member of the Tallahassee community and a leading lawyer in his field," said Andrew Smulian, Akerman Chairman and CEO. "Our clients and the community will undoubtedly benefit from his leadership."

As office managing partner, Platt will work to further strengthen the firm's relationships with civic, business and government leaders in the community. Platt also will continue his law practice, serving clients on issues related to health and insurance law. For over 20 years he has represented some of the largest health insurance companies in the United States, as well as regional health maintenance organizations, other health insurance entities, and healthcare providers in connection with licensure and compliance issues.

Platt will continue to play an active role in Akerman's philanthropic and pro bono initiatives, including the annual Akerman Give Back campaign in support of foster youth. Earlier this year, Platt was selected to serve as chair of the March of Dimes' 2015 Tallahassee Signature Chefs Auction.

Platt succeeds Silvia Alderman who served as the Tallahassee office managing partner since 2007. During such time, she oversaw the growth of the office while developing and enhancing the connections between Akerman and the community. Alderman will devote herself and her practice of environmental and land use law to the continued representation of developers, agricultural interests, industrial entities, and governmental entities. Assisting clients on the increasingly critical issues involving water use and water quality will also be a core part of her practice, leading the firm's newly constituted Water Law Task Force.

"I am honored to represent Akerman in Tallahassee where we have significant strength in regulatory, governmental and appellate matters," said Platt. "I look forward to building upon Silvia's accomplishments while helping Akerman advance the priorities of clients and continue to positively impact the Tallahassee community."
