Labor and Employment partner Amy Gaylord in Chicago discussed how the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has overhauled its personnel and operations in 2021 with Law360. The NLRB revamped its personnel and operations — bringing in new top brass, elevating women to key managerial roles, and increasing outreach across the country — to facilitate the biggest shifts in labor law and policy in 2021. A key metric for assessing the agency's ability to enforce the National Labor Relations Act and a central focus of the agency this year has been how quickly the board processes cases. Gaylord said the board is doing relatively well.

"The NLRB processes cases fairly quickly," said Gaylord. "Sometimes the labor bar complains about case processing, but I don't share that view. When you look at an agency like the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that sits on cases for years, the NLRB processes cases quickly."
