In The News

Labor and Employment partner Amy Moor Gaylord discussed the future of the Amazon Labor Union (ALU) in an article for Law360. The ALU, an independent union, recently filed a petition for an election to represent workers at Amazon facilities on Staten Island with the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) Brooklyn office. Typically, labor unions only file petitions that include signatures from more than 50 percent of the bargaining unit, as unions generally expect to lose support as employers increase their own union avoidance messaging. The ALU’s petition had just over the 30 percent support required by the NLRB.

“I’m not necessarily sure if that fall-off will happen,” Gaylord said. “I also don’t know that they will see a significant increase. Because if they’ve been doing this for a while, which they have, probably most of the people that are going to support the union have already signed cards, is my guess.”
