Real Estate Practice Chair Eric Rapkin in Fort Lauderdale explored the expanding need for infill centers as more consumers turned to e-commerce following the pandemic. In an article in GlobeSt, Rapkin explained how rising demand has pushed companies to find new distribution solutions. In many cases, especially in high-density urban areas where space is limited, the key is converting old buildings for use by e-commerce businesses over building new ones, but that approach comes with its own set of problems.

“It’s got to have enough access and turnaround that during the morning or throughout the day, there are all sorts of vans, cars like Uber drivers, who need to get there, pick up their packages, and then immediately leave,” Rapkin said. “I think that when you’re looking to do any kind of reuse of an infill site, the due diligence is critical.”
