He has negotiated favorable plan treatment for creditors, drafted and confirmed plans of liquidation and reorganization for debtors and competing creditors, negotiated and conducted large asset sales, and handled dozens of post-confirmation litigation matters and related adversary proceedings. As a zoning and land use lawyer, Dicks has represented applicants and objectors in public hearings; and he recently led a team that successfully prosecuted a bid protest and appeal.

The University of Florida Alumni Association acknowledged Dicks for his community work. "In addition to practicing law, John has written and published two children’s books and a collection of poetry… John is Chair of the statewide Ag Innovation Working Group, and the Vice Chair of the Florida State Fair Authority; he is active in his church and local bar association, and always willing to handle matters pro bono for local charitable organizations."
