Luis A. Perez, who serves as Chair of the Latin America and the Caribbean Practice  and is the Co-Managing Partner of the Miami Office, was honored by the University of Miami Inter-American Law Review (IALR) as "The Lawyer of the Americas" during its 41st banquet on March 21, 2024. The award recognizes one preeminent attorney each year who has made a significant impact across Latin America and the Caribbean.

According to IALR, Perez was selected for his many noteworthy achievements in the region, including his recognitions and rankings as a leading international arbitration lawyer by Chambers Latin America and Chambers Global, his successful representation of clients engaged in disputes in Latin America, his involvement with the Inter-American Bar Association and his leadership at Akerman.

As chair of Akerman’s Latin America and the Caribbean Practice, he leads an internationally recognized team providing legal counsel across multiple disciplines. He focuses his practice on dispute resolution and handles commercial litigation and arbitration across the United States and Latin America for clients in various sectors, including manufacturing, defense contracting, energy, technology, financial services and medical devices.
