International Practice Chair Pedro Freyre spoke to numerous publications, including The Washington Post and The Miami Herald, regarding the developing situation in Cuba. On Thursday, July 22, President Joe Biden began imposing sanctions against members of the Cuban government in response to the anti-government protests on the island that began on July 11. The protests began after the administration failed to address demands for greater political freedom amid a suffering economy, with many calling for a regime change.
“The reality on the ground has now shifted to the point where there will be a change, but it’s not going to be in the direction the [Cuban] government wanted or expected,” Freyre told The Washington Post.

Freyre also provided commentary in Spanish to BBC News and CNN Españo, appearing in two video interviews for the latter.
"La regla general es que todo aquello que no esté explícitamente autorizado por una licencia especial o general está absolutamente prohibido si tiene que ver con Cuba, en términos económicos y de comercio,” Freyre said in the BBC article.
