Brian Bagley, Brit Brown, Scott Marrs, and James Rogers have been named among the 2025 Lawdragon 500 Leading Energy Lawyers, which recognizes those who have made a remarkable impact throughout the strata of energy – nuclear, wind, solar, hydropower, and oil and gas. The lawyers were selected through journalistic reporting, nominations, and vetting with peers and experts in environmental law.

Brian, a litigation partner, brings close to 20 years of experience representing companies and individuals in complex commercial litigation matters. He has successfully tried cases in state and federal court in addition to advocating for clients during arbitration. Brian focuses his practice on commercial litigation, energy, employment litigation, products liability, and intellectual property litigation. His work encompasses numerous sectors, including energy, automotive, entertainment, banking, real estate, hospitality, and manufacturing. In the energy sector, Brian represents oil and gas operators in disputes with co-operators and mineral owners over royalty issues and advises a major power development and supply company in litigation and arbitration.

Brit is a trial lawyer with over 35 years of experience representing clients in the energy sector.  He serves as the Firm's Energy Sector Team Co-Chair, and presently focuses his energy related practice on commercial and construction disputes, and litigation involving catastrophic operational failures.  Brit worked in the upstream industry and earned his Master of Business Administration before attending law school where he served as Executive Editor of the Houston Law Review.  He regularly relies upon his pre-law life experience in his case investigation, development and trial work.  Brit's litigation work spans across the United States with significant international experience. 

Scott, who serves as office managing partner of Akerman’s Houston office, is a formidable trial lawyer with over 30 years of experience litigating high profile energy matters in state and federal courts as well as arbitrations in the United States, South America, the Middle East, and Europe. Scott focuses on legal issues in virtually all aspects of the energy sector, including oil and gas exploration, production, transportation, storage, power, chemical, petrochemical, energy marketing, and well service. He also litigates intellectual property and complex commercial disputes.

James, a litigation partner, has experience in complex commercial litigation, trade secrets, restrictive covenants, unfair competition, insurance coverage, accounting and legal professional liability, and price redetermination proceedings; he has tried multiple trials and arbitrations in Texas, Florida, Missouri, California, and internationally on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants. He represents clients in oil and gas, energy, petrochemical, accounting, insurance, aviation, and products liability disputes. In addition, James provides insightful guidance on matters pertaining to the enforcement of commercial security rights, wrongful foreclosures, construction, and asset acquisition disputes.
