Press Release

Akerman LLP, a leading law firm, today announced that it has partnered with Dixon Ticonderoga Company, maker of the iconic No. 2 pencil, to provide new backpacks filled with school supplies to 700 young disadvantaged students. The backpacks will be donated directly to the children of one of 65 elementary schools in the Palm Beach County School District serving children from predominantly low income families.

"We are so pleased to join forces with our client, Dixon Ticonderoga Company, to serve a cause we are both passionate about – education and youth development," said Mark Passler, Chair of Akerman's Intellectual Property Practice Group.

"We are proud to come together with Dixon Ticonderoga Company as allies in the community to meet the needs of many children, particularly at-risk students, encouraging them to make education a priority and to support their teachers and schools," said Eric Gordon, West Palm Beach Office Managing Partner.

The children will receive the backpacks at a special ceremony, themed “Education can make Dreams come True,” on January 22 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the West Riviera Elementary school pavilion, 1057 W. 6th Street, Riviera Beach. As part of the presentation, 60 West Riviera students from grades K-5 will participate in a side walk art activity to illustrate their Thank You to parents, teachers, school district leaders, and donors in attendance with drawings that portray their personal ambitions and positive visions of school.

“Communities depend on caring corporate citizens such as Akerman to keep our schools fully supplied,” said Timothy M. Gomez, CEO of Dixon Ticonderoga Company. “We applaud Akerman for recognizing this critical classroom need and challenging other companies to help us provide high-quality writing and art supplies for our young writers and artists.”
