Akerman’s partnership with the National Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian ad Litem Association for Children (National CASA/GAL) was highlighted by Law.com. National CASA/GAL is an organization that supports youth in foster care by supporting and promoting court-appointed volunteer advocacy, allowing abused and neglected children the opportunity to thrive. In addition to the thousands of hours of philanthropic and pro bono support that Akerman lawyers and staff have provided, the firm also offers the Akerman Academic Excellence Scholarship, an award of $2,500 a year for up to four years of higher education. The scholarship is funded through an endowment established in 2015 as part of a $1 million pledge to National CASA/GAL.

“Akerman is focused on finding innovative ways to achieve maximum impact across its local communities, moving beyond traditional pro bono legal service, and fostering new opportunities for collaboration with community partners and clients. The pledge to National CASA/GAL is an example of that commitment and allows for Akerman to play a substantial role in the lives of youth in foster care nationwide. A significant portion of the pledged funds with directly to local CASA/GAL programs in cities where Akerman has offices.”
