In The News

Akerman has once again been recognized among the top law firms for pro bono legal services by the Orlando Business Journal, based on the number of pro bono hours donated to those in need in Central Florida. Akerman lawyers and other professionals in Orlando — and across the firm — have contributed thousands of hours in pro bono and volunteer service to support underprivileged children and their families. The firm is known for creating an unprecedented partnership with the National Court Appointed Advocates Association (CASA) during the launch of the Akerman Give Back Campaign. Since the relationship began in 2014, Akerman has pledged $1 million and formed the Akerman Academic Excellence Scholarship for youth that have spent time in the foster care system.

Akerman's Orlando office has received significant recognition for its efforts to advance the rights of abused and neglected children in the family court system. The firm was selected as the recipient of the inaugural Orlando Business Journal's Corporate Philanthropy Award in the Pro Bono category. The Orange County Bar Association's Legal Aid Society honored Akerman with its highest law firm award, the 2016 John R. Hamilton Law Firm Award of Excellence. Florida's Children First, an organization that is focused on protecting the rights on children within Florida’s court systems, also presented the firm with their 2016 Champions for Children award.
