Akerman's first "Give Back" campaign was highlighted in a Daily Business Review story titled, "Children's Advocacy Bill Awaits Governor's Signature." The article reported on recent legislative developments in support of Florida's foster youth that are expected to be signed into law by the governor this year. The role of attorneys ad litem is a centerpiece of the new legislation, which requires legal representation for at-risk children across the state. During Foster Care Awareness Month, Akerman pledged to achieve even greater impact for today's youth with the launch of a firm-wide philanthropic campaign dedicated to education and youth development. For the inaugural "Give Back" campaign, Akerman became the first law firm to partner nationally with the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association and its local guardian ad litem programs, promoting volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children in the foster care system.

"The Akerman law firm is working alongside the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association and its local CASA and guardian ad litem programs to promote volunteer advocacy … Hundreds of Akerman lawyers and staff collectively pledged more than 14,000 volunteer hours and raised more than $100,000 across the firm's 20 offices," wrote the Daily Business Review.
