Press Release

Akerman is pleased to announce its successful representation of MDEV6 LLC in obtaining a Certificate of Appropriateness from the City of Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board (HPB) for the Casa Cipriani project at 36th Street and Collins Avenue. The HPB unanimously approved the site plan, including the use of adjacent property to maximize available floor area ratio.

The Akerman team was led by Miami Office Co-Managing Partner Neisen Kasdin.

Casa Cipriani strikes the perfect balance between contemporary European design and the characteristic joyful ambiance of Miami Beach's historic hotels. It recaptures and reimagines the elegance of the 1940s and 1950s Miami Beach where the Grand Dame hotels, including properties such as Roy France’s 1948 Saxony Hotel and Morris Lapidus’ 1954 Fontainebleau Hotel, made Collins Avenue an architectural marvel and Miami Beach 'America's Playground.' Brandon Haw’s Casa Cipriani is a contemporary Grand Dame.”

Casa Cipriani Miami Beach, developed by 13th Floor Investments, Giuseppe Cipriani, and Midtown Equities (Cayre family), will be the third Casa Cipriani globally, following acclaimed openings in Milan and New York. The project will feature a 36-room luxury hotel, 23 residential condominium units, and a private member’s club, designed by renowned architect Brandon Haw, formerly of Foster and Partners.

This landmark approval marks the first Miami Beach project to utilize the Florida Resilient Safe Structures Act, permitting the demolition of two unsafe contributing structures in the local historic district. These buildings, which could not meet current FEMA elevation standards and were not considered significant examples of period architecture, will be replaced to enhance neighborhood character.

Akerman is proud to support transformative projects that honor Miami Beach’s legacy while advancing resilient, world-class development.
