Florida Land Use and Entitlements Chair Dennis Kerbel and associate Christopher Penelas successfully represented VSGS Facilities LLC in obtaining unanimous approval from the Homestead City Commission for a landmark Ground Lease and Development Agreement. The vote, held on July 30, 2025, authorizes the development of the Sports Performance Hub of Miami-Dade, a world-class sports and recreation destination to be located at Homestead Regional Park.
The 80-year lease agreement paves the way for the creation of a transformative campus that merges elite athletic training, youth development, wellness, and inclusive public recreation — all at no cost to the City of Homestead.
The approved project includes:
- A 10,000-seat multipurpose stadium
- A sports-themed hotel and boarding school for student-athletes
- A youth sports academy with global reach
- Rehabilitated and expanded public sports and recreation amenities, including tennis, basketball, pickleball, and baseball facilities, along with multi-use athletic fields
The stadium is expected to host Miami FC matches, professional sports events, the historic Homestead Championship Rodeo, and diverse cultural and community programming. The broader campus will serve as an international destination for sports performance, education, and community engagement.
The Sports Performance Hub is being developed by a founding coalition of renowned athletes and global entrepreneurs, including Juan Sebastián Verón, Darío Sala, Manu Ginóbili, and Riccardo Silva, among others. Their shared mission is to create a self-sustaining, privately funded model of inclusive growth, economic development, and social impact.
