Press Release

Alejandro García-Villalpando has joined Akerman Senterfitt as a shareholder in the firm's Taxation Practice Group in New York where he will focus on domestic and international tax and corporate matters. His work for U.S. and foreign clients will largely intersect with Akerman's Latin American & Caribbean Practice, with an emphasis on the tax aspects of cross-border transactions.

García-Villalpando brings nearly 20 years of experience in advising public and private companies, private equity firms, and hedge funds on U.S. and transnational tax matters, particularly involving the tax aspects of cross-border transactions, including the structuring of inbound and outbound investments in U.S. and Latin American regions. He also counsels clients on the tax implications of mergers and acquisitions, LBOs, corporate reorganizations, privatizations, partnerships, joint ventures, project finance, structured finance, capital market offerings, and various types of pooled investments. Additionally, García-Villalpando has extensive experience in structuring offshore wealth management vehicles and international tax and estate planning matters for high net worth individuals and family offices.

"Alejandro's expertise is a natural extension for our clients currently dealing with state and local tax issues that wish to develop their operations overseas, and for those abroad seeking U.S. market entry," said Peter Larsen, chair of Akerman's Taxation Practice Group. "He can assist existing Akerman clients with Latin American tax matters, international tax disputes involving Latin American jurisdictions, and multinational tax planning for U.S. and foreign based multinational companies. We look forward to making even greater contributions to our clients with our enhanced knowledge of tax authorities worldwide."

Akerman advises domestic and foreign corporations, partnerships, individuals, and nonprofit institutions on a wide range of international, federal, and state and local tax issues, tax audits, and tax litigation. Our team represents clients on complex transactions and adds value by creating tax efficient structures and offering innovative and practical solutions. Akerman also provides tax planning associated with in-bound and out-bound investments in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as counsel to foreign companies and individual investors looking to do business in the U.S.
