Top 100 U.S. law firm Akerman LLP today announced that two of its practice groups – Tax, and Bankruptcy and Reorganization – have been recognized for their outstanding work, winning places among Law360’s "Practice Groups of the Year" for 2022. The annual lists honor practice groups that stand out based on the size, complexity, and consequence of client matters handled.

This marks the second time the Tax Practice Group has won this recognition. The group has represented clients that have won several recent precedent-setting decisions in state court. Two of the five "Top State and Local Tax Cases of 2022" chosen by Law360 were led by Akerman lawyers. Together, the national team's four primary areas of focus—federal, state and local, trusts and estates, and employee benefits and executive compensation—provide practical, forward-thinking solutions through all phases of the business lifecycle, including evaluating and advising on tax compliance, structuring tax-efficient domestic and cross-border transactions, and vigorously defending its clients in tax disputes across the country.

The Bankruptcy and Reorganization Practice Group has served as counsel in many of the nation’s largest bankruptcy filings, and in 2022, was involved in numerous high-profile and precedent-setting matters. In addition to Akerman’s full-service restructuring work, the firm has a unique national fraud and recovery practice, serving as a turnkey operation of experienced receivers, trustees, liquidating trustees, and their counsel. The practice is also known for its in-depth experience nationally in legal matters involving Ponzi schemes.

Law360 selected 184 winning groups across 39 practice areas. In the awards' 13th year, the Practice Groups of the Year hail from 87 law firms and rose to the top of nearly 900 submissions.
